The STACK and REACH on a bicycle are important because…
…these two measurements determine the actual size of a bicycle.
And they are also very reliable data to know well the size of bicycle that we really need.
Because there is no more unpleasant feeling than riding a bike that is not your size because it prevents you from pedaling at ease, reduces your efficiency and safety and also, in the long run, generates muscle pain.
So it is worth taking a few minutes to understand these simple concepts.
📍REACH: also known as the range of a bicycle.
It is the horizontal distance parallel to the ground between the vertical from the bottom bracket spindle to the top of the head tube.
📍STACK: called the height of the frame.
It is the vertical distance perpendicular to the ground from the bottom bracket horizontal to the top tube of the head tube.
If the chosen bike has a higher REACH than we need, it is very likely that we will have problems with numbness in our hands (at least pinkies) and back.
If, on the other hand, it is in the STACK where we have been shorter or longer, we will have problems in the hamstrings, calves, back, etc.
Did you already know these terms and their importance? Do you consider that the size of your bike is right for you?
Depending on how long or short the REACH is, and how high or low the STACK is, we will have a bicycle suitable for one type of use or another.
